Nepal allows internet facility in its sky during international flights
Kathmandu,
Nepal’s telecommunications regulator has decided to allow international airlines to use the Nepali sky for providing internet service to their passengers.
A meeting of the board of directors of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority made the decision on March 22. As per the decision, a company willing to provide the service to the passengers can use the frequencies above 10,000 feet from the surface.
Using the internet below the 10,000 feet, however, might affect the frequencies being used on the surface, fears the authority.
However, the airlines are also required to obtain approval from the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Recently, three foreign airline companies had asked Nepal for such permission.
